The Telangana High Court is the highest court of the state. In the initial stages, it was named the Hyderabad Deccan Court. After the independence of India, it was renamed as the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 1956.
In December 2018, an order was issued to bifurcate the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the State of Telangana. Until January 2019, Hyderabad served as a common High Court for both states. Now, it functions as the High Court for Telangana only and is located in Ghansi Bazaar, Hyderabad.
As of now, the High Court in Hyderabad has 42 judges. In July 2023, Alok Aradhe was nominated as the new Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
Differences
- Chief Justice: Heads the entire High Court of Telangana and is the highest judicial authority in the state.
- Administrative Judge: Oversees the administration of a specific district’s courts and judges.
- District and Sessions Judge: Presides over all the courts within a particular district and is the highest judicial authority for that district.
- Prl. District and Sessions Judge: This stands for “Principal District and Sessions Judge”. They are essentially the second-in-command judge in the district, assisting the District and Sessions Judge.
